Maritime Pilotage is defined as a compoud of professional
activities to assist the Masters of vessels on approach
and departure, navigation in channel, manoeuvring in restricted
waters, berthing and unberthing.
It is required bylocal peculiarities for a
secure navigation regarding the safety of life at sea, the
protection of public and private patrimony and the marine
environment preservation.
All human and material means necessary to
comply efficiently and safely with Pilotage service are
centred at the Pilot Station.
It is maintained 24x7 in any and every situation
by a continuous collect of information covering the Pilotage
Zone at any moment and the interchange of this information
between, from and to Pilots and users for a non-stop service
and attendance of users requests.
The Pilots boats are specifically desingned
and costructed for this service. With trained crew they
are fit and equipped to board the vessels whenever necessary
or requested.
The Pilots are experienced seamen, most of
them former Master Mariners with a high level technical
formation, a
deep
knowledge of local peculiarities and a continuous and specific
training to hold the necessary skills to board, navigate
and manoeuvre the vessels in any and every situation and
weather and sea condition to maintain a continuous and safe
service, assuring by all means the free transit of goods,
the maritime traffic and the preservation of the entire
environment.
